SUPPORTING PRACTICES

The Medellin Protocol’s Five Fundamental Factors describe most important variables required to achieve healing. However it is important to utilize all resources available to reach a state of relaxation and wellness and listed below are the other practices and services available to help achieve your goals.

The Supporting Practices are:

Yoga

There are many different types of Yoga but the branches of yoga that most relate to relaxation and healing are listed below.

Meditation Based Yoga –

While most people in the west visualize Yoga as people doing different poses and breathing exercises, the deepest yoga practices are meditation based.

Athletic Based Yoga –
Some styles of yoga emphasize the physical benefits of practicing long flowing choreographies of yoga poses known as sequences.  By practicing a comprehensive range of different asanas and obtaining a cardiovascular benefit from the flowing nature of the practice, students often experience major health benefits and a much higher quality of life.

Relaxation Based Yoga –

Some styles of yoga like Yin Yoga or Restorative Yoga are designed to help restore the energy of the student by allowing the student to experience the benefits of yoga positions in a context of deep relaxation and rest supported by pillows and blankets.

Traditional Hatha Yoga –

The original practice of Yoga poses and breathing exercises and other components of physical yoga systems are sourced from Hatha Yoga texts dating back centuries.

Devotional Chanting Yoga –

What is known as Bhakti Yoga is a science of tuning the mind and transmitting from the mind frequencies of unconditional love and complete surrender.

All Yoga practices look to achieve one essential goal which is to be able to identify with a higher and more eternal essence as your true nature. Once this is accomplished and we realize that we are not our bodies nor even our thinking minds,  we can begin to live with more peace and less fear which is the ultimate marker for advancement on the yoga path and the ultimate goal of life.

Pranayama (Breathing)

There is a direct relationship between the breath and the mind which is known as the science of Pranayama. When we breathe with certain rhythms their waves affect the mind directly by allowing the parasympathetic nervous system to emerge and bring to bear our healing capacities and immune systems.

Meditation

What is Meditation anyway?

Meditation practices are designed to directly connect us with our true nature (divine and eternal) and are transformational for our level of consciousness, or the way we think.

Meditation is a practice of bringing awareness to formerly unconscious patterns and then to create a present moment and future that transcends past limitations and obstacles.

Counseling

One on One Counseling sessions offer an opportunity to identify some of the patterns that are self-limiting  or creating unnecessary fear and anxiety. Counselors can also assist in explaining some of the basic science of detoxification as well as the nature of the healing events that occur on the path to wellness.  Counseling sessions must be reserved in advance.

Hiking

Finca Bienestar offers a beautiful circular hiking trail around our entire 20 acre property that is ideal for getting all the benefits of hiking in nature without ever being too far from your room.  Much of our trail follows the stream and heads near our natural springs.

Along with our gentle Yoga program, slow and gentle hiking in nature provides innumerable benefits.  Benefits range from relaxation and lowering stress all the way to the spiritual benefits that come from feeling being in nature. Hiking is an important way to move our body and feel connected.

Guided Relaxation

Guided Relaxation audio files offer us a perfect opportunity to let the mind relax and to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.  Guests are provided various guided relaxation tracks to enjoy throughout their stay.

Spring Water Spa Treatments/ Hydrotherapy

Finca Bienestar is home to a very unique spa treatment that we call the Spring Water Spa as the entire bathing complex is irrigated by our own mountain Spring.  The water flow from our natural spring is directed into a series of baths with both warm and cold water.  This is augmented with natural clays and salts for detox and relaxation.Water therapy, or hydrotherapy, has a long and established history of being a powerful healing element to treat disease and pain. There are many references to the healing uses of water in ancient Hindu, Chinese, and Native American teachings.  Water is able to cleanse our energy and our energetic bodies in a way that nothing else can in the universe. Water of course is the very basis of life itself for a reason, which is that it is mysterious and miraculous and powerful.

Salt Rubs

Salt has a unique ability to cleanse toxins due to its negative ionic charge.  Salt treatments provide a powerful tool in the detoxification process. When we add magnesium salts to the bath, we also deliver a relaxation encouraging chemistry to the body.

Mud Baths

Mud baths have been used for centuries to detoxify and heal the skin.  Like Salts, mud carries a negative ionic charge which draws out and eliminates the toxins which are positively charged from the body.  As part of our Spring Water Spa detox treatments we use both mud and salt.

Massage Therapy and Bodywork – Massage  and the power of human touch is a very effective relaxation tool.  The healing and nervous system relaxing effect of touch is profound.

Acupuncture/Acupressure – Another extremely relaxing experience that also has positive energy effects is acupuncture.  With acupuncture the client is induced into a deep state of relaxation while needles are placed along energy meridians.  The needles help stimulate energy to move in certain directions and the deep relaxation triggers the parasympathetic nervous system which does the real deep healing work.
